The Tree Warden is responsible for the maintenance and planting of trees on town rights-of-way and advising town boards, when requested, on the planting and maintenance of trees on town lands.
Perhaps the most visible task is the trimming and removal of dead and dying trees which present threats to property and public safety.
A high point during the past year was the planting of 16 trees on Walker and Main Street, and thanks to the Department of Public Works diligent watering of those trees during the exceptionally dry summer, they are alive and well. The trees include pears, sugar maples, elms (resistant to Dutch elm disease) and flowering crabapples. More are planned for the future.
